History:
Wesley grew up a mostly unhappy child, driven mainly by his demanding father. He was successful in school and took any chance he could to improve himself and his education. Eventually earning the role of Head Boy at his school, this paved the way for him to begin his Watcher training.
Wes first showed up in Sunnydale to be Faith's Watcher. His approach was greatly different from Giles which caused near immediate conflict with the rest of the group. Wesley showed a strict attention to detail and a 'by the book' approach to training the Slayer. Lacking any real combat experience or street smarts, he proved quite useless in a battle. Over time, he eased up his strict ways and learned that real world experience was more effective in a fight. He eventually went against the Council and supported Buffy and the Scoobies in the fight against the Mayor. Wesley was eventually fired from the Watchers Council for incompetence.
Without a place or a purpose in the world, Wesley took on a new persona...Rogue Demon Hunter. More of a character than a real internal development, Wesley played this role to give his life some meaning and as an outlet for his knowledge. Eventually, Wesley encountered Angel Investigations and assisted the group in various cases. He was offered a job with the group which he accepted and soon proved a valuable member of the time. His deep knowledge of the occult, sorcery, and black arts was regularly utilized by Angel and company on the growing number of cases.
After Angel dives deeper into his darkside in order to battle Wolfram and Hart, Wesley takes control of Angel Investigations and continues its operation. Wes proved himself a brilliant strategist and capable leader during Angel's absence. Some time later after Angel has rejoined the group, Wesley is forced to make a hard decision for the sake of the world. He was forced out of what he believed was the truth, to kidnap Angel's child Connor. He was then the object of Angel's rage, betrayed, and outcast from the group. Wesley was consumed with self loathing and it seemed as if every turn only had a darker outcome. One of the darkest was his affair with Lilah that only deepened his anger and sense of loss from the group. After saving Angel with his own blood, Wesley is once more made a member of A.I.
His demeanor and overall outlook on life is dramatically shifted at this point. He is much more determined, ruthless again, and heavily focused on getting results by the most dangerous of methods. He makes the decision to remove large portions of Angel's and the rest of the world's memory around this time to get rid of any notion of Connor. Soon after, Wesley and the rest of the team agree to take over Wolfram and Hart.
During the Wolfram and Hart time, Wesley sees trauma after trauma. From killing what he thinks is his father, falling in love with Fred only to see her be turned into Illyria, and more friction with Gunn...he sinks into the bottle.
"Wesley holds onto Illyria as the only thing he has left of Fred, helping her understand the human world she is unfamiliar with. He inadvertently restores his and his friends' memories of Connor when he smashes the Orlon Window, thinking that Angel had betrayed his trust. Wesley visibly feels guilty after remembering how he betrayed his friends by taking Connor from Angel and later apologizes to Gunn for stabbing him. Towards the end of the season, Angel proposes an attack against the Circle of the Black Thorn, a powerful group of demons under the employ of the Wolfram & Hart's Senior Partners. In the show's final episode, Wesley does battle with the warlock Cyvus Vail and is mortally wounded. He spends his dying moments with Illyria at his side, finally agreeing to let the demon take the form of Fred, thus allowing Wesley, in some way, to say goodbye to the woman he loved."-wiki article.
(More time passes depending on what all events have happened in this group, but eventually he awakens in the White Room, brought back to life since his contract with Wolfram and Hart counteracted his death....more details obviously to follow)

Wesley opened his eyes and took in nothing but brilliant white light. His first reaction was to wince or turn away from the power of it, but his eyes did not burn. He parted his lips to speak, but no words come from his throat. His fingers moved quickly to his neck and traced along the scar there. The memories of pain and betrayal flickered across his mind and pelted the base of his skull like fired bullets. He managed a difficult swallow and stared deeper into the white void. Drawing his arms around himself, he hugged tightly to block out the growing cold
"Fred..." The cracked and dry voice sprang from his lips like a questioning whisper.
His own arms holding his body pretended for a moment that the frame was that of another...someone he loved. The image of her burned into his brain with great clarity and impossible detail. Though the image soon decayed and changed...the face of Illyria..another lie.
"Choose." Spoke a voice from all around him and from within him.
Wesley shook his head in resistance and confusion. He shut his eyes against the pure whiteness and dropped down to his knees. The weight of his past and the depth of remembered emotion pressed on his body so much that he thought it might crush him.
"Choose, Wesley." The voice came from a single point, from a familiar pair of lips. The hand that fell to rest on the back of his head was unmistakable.
"Mother."
He looked up to see her face and felt comforted again as the weight quickly fell away. He started to speak again but was silenced by a finger being placed to his lips. The figure he believed was his mother pointed across the room of white to the shadows of three men. They each turned in unison and approached. Wesley's mouth fell open in confusion and his eyes narrowed at the scene. Before him there stood..himself...in triplicate. Three Wesleys stood side by side..all the same..but all different. One stood in a smart suit, glasses, a Watcher, holding tightly to his frame a stake and a dusty tome... To his left, a rogue demon hunter...to his right was the former leader of Angel Investigations.
"You must choose, dear. Time is short."
The mother smiled and took a step away from her son, slowly vanishing into the void.
"Choose who I am to become?" His voice lifted once more in a soft question.
"No. You choose who you're going to fight first...The last man standing returns to the real world." His mother's voice echoed from the emptiness.
"Oh...dear."
