How did you find us? I was on here waaaay back in the day.
How many characters do you already have here? Technically, one, but I don't plan to reactivate Janine Conway.
Character's full name: Donne "Adonis" Kinclaith
Age: 26
Group Species: Human
Gender: Man
Alignment: Neutral
Features: 6'2", slimmer than he looks (he likes to illusion up some muscles when he can). Dark brown hair long enough to look messy, dark brown eyes.
Please supply a character image if possible:
Model's name: Marlon Texeira
Personality: Dramatic, friendly, charming, flirtatious, easygoing. People have also called him debauched, careless, irresponsible, and wicked, "lacking in moral fiber" (the admissions committee for the Watcher's Academy), "a thin veneer of self-indulgence hiding a deep core of desperate people-pleaser" (his older sister, but only to him in private), and "much better off with me to take care of you" (his ex). He's much more of a planner than he tries to let on (if even someone like Mark Twain "never could make a good impromptu speech without several hours to prepare it" imagine how much more preparation it takes to plan a party).
Likes: Being the center of attention, being the cause of someone or something else being the center of attention, approval, delicious food, eye-catching but comfortable clothing, being underestimated, being prepared, being desired, being liked, mirrorsalt.
Dislikes: Anything of cheap quality or poorly made (especially furniture), ill-fitting clothes, pain, injury, psychotropic substances of any kind (except mirrorsalt especially mirrorsalt), the silent treatment, people acting entitled to him (to his time, his money, his bed) for any reason, being tricked, being controlled.
Strengths:
* Illusions - auditory in-area, visual/tactile on his own body (he must be touching them, they also can't extend much further than his own reach)
Examples:
- Auditory: thunderclap, applause, whispers, music. Will appear on recordings.
- Visual/tactile: antlers, wings, fire, fog. Three-dimensional, optically really "there"--they show up on camera and in reflections, cast shadows, emit light if desired, mirrors and lenses have normal optical properties, etc. They might feel "sharp" to the touch but cannot cut, "hot" but cannot burn, etc., even to the point of being painful, and no matter how hard or solid they feel, you can put your finger/hand (or object) through them easily (however doing so doesn't cause them to dissipate or pop)
* He's sexy and he knows it. (Which is why he has a couple latex veins full of holy water fastened to his neck.) Yes he has gotten out of fights using seduction.
Weaknesses:
* He's a human, with normal human vulnerabilities to blunt-force trauma, bleeding, oxygen deprivation, etc. Furthermore he is very aware of these vulnerabilities and deeply unenthusiastic about experiencing their exploitation.
* He is very bad at fighting. Peak hand-to-hand combat ability might allow him to have held his own as a third party in Xander and Harmony's slap fight (at least before the hair-pulling).
History:
- Childhood:
Location: England
People:
- Mother: "Lyra Kinclaith", a determined social climber who used her "belief illusion" ability (thought-affecting only, no external component) to convince a dying and wealthy man with no other heirs that his (actually deceased) daughter had decided to reconcile with him on his deathbed and rejoin the family, after previously faking her death in order to run away. She soon found out that the money and family home and high-class politics, which she'd wanted, came with a side order of learning about the existence of demons and the wider world of the supernatural, which made her own powers seem paltry in comparison. Not one to experience regret about a course of action, she flung herself and her children into Watcher family politics without looking back. Remarkable woman. Flammable. She plays a major role in Donne's post-mirrorsalt hallucinations.
- Older sister: Cadence Kinclaith, nee Caden. Practical, clean, capable of matching stubbornness and temper to Lyra's, leading to a years-long mostly-unbroken mutual non-aggression pact where both ignored the other until Cadence could move out. Her version of the family illusion powers manifests as visual illusions she can see out of in two varieties: substanceless (hologram-like) illusions she can move and change at range, and fragile but "solid" projections which she can hear, feel, and cast illusions out of, which must be touching her directly, touching another solid projection which is touching her, touching a solid projection which is touching a solid projection which is touching her, etc. There is no auditory component to her illusions. Cadence is still in touch with Donne, and helped him escape from his mirrorsalt addiction and Riven.
- Younger brother: Yves Kinclaith. Smart and scholarly-minded, Yves was Lyra's favorite for Donne's childhood, as far back as he could remember. Lyra frequently declared him to be the clever one, the brains of the operation, and so on, while Donne's role was the good-looking one. Despite being two years younger than Donne, he was applied to enter the Watcher's Academy before Donne was, where he promptly put his studious nose to the scholarly grindstone and quietly but firmly cut himself off from Lyra's influence and scheming. While all the members of the family have some immunity to each other's illusion powers, Donne sometimes wonders if Yves's concealment style of illusions (which applied to both objects and to factual connections, resembling Lyra's in that respect) helped him hide his distaste for his family from them all.
- Adolescence:
Location: Still England
People: Basically everyone in a Watcher family not actually attending the Academy and more than a few of the ones who had or were.
Notable events of Donne's adolescence include Cadence coming out and transitioning (Lyra was incredibly disappointed that her daughter did not share her interest in trendsetting fashion), Yves going to the Academy and cutting himself out of the family, Donne subsequently becoming Lyra's favorite (she suddenly noticed that just because he was pretty didn't mean he was stupid any more than she was) and much more involved in the social politics behind the Watcher's Council, and Donne deliberately tanking his application to the Academy by propositioning someone on the admissions committee in exchange for letting him in... in front of the rest of the admissions committee. (He was having a good time being the center of his mother's attention and having a full social calendar. Going to the Academy to be known as Yves's older, less academically successful, brother was not appealing to him.)
Also Lyra died when he was 19. But he's certainly over that by now. It's fine.
- Adulthood:
Location: Las Vegas, mostly
People:
- Hart Talent Agency, a subsidiary of Wolfram & Hart. "Adonis"'s contract with them is short and simple and includes the ability to exit it at any time with no penalty. Moving to Las Vegas at 19 to deal with your mother's death by throwing yourself into a variety of jobs in the entertainment industry all at once may be dumb, but that doesn't mean he's stupid.
- Mr. Drake, consummate businessman, also a dragon; his daughter and "princess", Belinda, whom he hired Adonis to chaperone. He was pretty surprised, but not, in the end analysis, displeased, when his daughter, encouraged by conversation with Donne, asserted her status more as dragon-if-in-human-form than treasure.
- Riven, a psychiatrist and hobbyist alchemist who hired a 23-year-old Adonis's services as professional arm candy / socialite--24/7--at rates that almost made the subsequent emotional abuse, and addiction to the magical drug mirrorsalt, worth it. Almost. Except actually, as Cadence and Belinda pointed out when they confronted Donne (and helped him escape, and recover), not really, at all.
Notable aftereffects of the mirrorsalt addiction include no longer remembering dreams after sleeping, and mirror-based hallucinations. On a good day, when Donne looks at his reflection, he sees his mother with him, and she's approving or encouraging. On a bad day, he sees--and hears--Riven. At least after two years of living full-time with the man he can be certain he knows his ex well enough to know he wouldn't be caught dead in a place like Cleveland.
RP Sample: Not a canon character
