How did you find us?
Google; and I have been here before years ago.
How many characters do you already have here?
None currently, but played Wesley, Angel, and Layla in the past.
Character's full name:Liam/Angelus/Angel
Age:280
Group Species:Vampire
Gender:Male
Alignment: Good
Features: Angel stands 6' 1", weighs in at 194 lbs with an athletic build. Dark brown hair, brown eyes, and the typical pale skin of his breed.
Please supply a character image if possible:
Model's name: David Boreanaz
Personality: A model for nobility, self-sacrificing, a gentleman, brave warrior, leader of men, and a champion could all go to describe part of the creature known as Angel. He is in a near constant state of resolve, serious, and deeply responsible. So odd that a lazy drunk known as Liam could be turned into a vampire, effectively housing the demon Angelus and still after receiving his soul turn out to be more than a decent guy. Behind the outward often stoic expressions and down to business attitude he operates with, there hides the soul of a guilty man. Many years of pains and tortures he inflicted upon others remain inside him, replaying over and over each day. The desire to cleanse himself and pay for the crimes he has committed forces Angel into an existence most would call misery. He's been accused of being overly gloomy, brooding, and a general sad bore to be around. Though, to be fair, when the situation is appropriate and it seems called for, he has been known to show his humorous side. With all of the dangers that true happiness can bring to him, he's learned to control his emotions and build great walls around himself for the protection of others. The greater good and the survival of innocents is what drives Angel, most often at the sacrifice of the things he loves the most.
Likes: Angel has very few joys in life, or things he likes. He's come to like the company of his friends and knowing they are safe. Seeing good prevail over evil brings him a certain amount of happiness. Obviously he has a preference for blood as a drink/food of choice..by default he likes it. Quiet places, a darkened room, and a chance at serenity also sit high on his preferences list. No woman that he's loved could make this list, since in his opinion no words would be able to justly capture them. Over all these things, knowing that he has a purpose in this world to do Good as opposed to Evil is perhaps his greatest pleasure. And Barry Manilow.
Dislikes: Having the big picture hidden from him, being used as a pawn, dealing with liars and backstabbers, and having to follow cosmic rules that he did not agree to all rank up there in the things that drive him nuts. He's also not a great fan of dancing, babbling, singing, paperwork, filing, being social, or losing his soul.
Strengths:
*Typical vampire abilities: immortality, super strength/speed/agility, enhanced senses, and regenerative processes to heal damage. Though due to Angel's age his abilities are more advanced than most other vampires or demons.
*Photographic memory
*superior hand-to-hand and weapons combat skills
*vast knowledge of demonology and history due to his long life
*holds psychic links with those he's sired allowing him to experience vague dreams based on their recent deeds and sense their presence
Weaknesses:
*sunlight and fire
*stakes through the heart
*beheading
*crosses and holy water, other religious items
*stubborn and set in his ways once a decision is made
*Buffy and Darla
*moments of true happiness or anything else that could remove his soul, reverting him back to the vicious Angelus.
History:
In Galway, Ireland, a child called Liam was born into a silk and linen merchant household. The child, who would one day become known as Angel, dealt with a difficult relationship with his parents. While he had aspirations and dreams, they never seemed quite enough for his father. Liam became fed up with not being able to earn the respect of his parents and grew tired of the lifestyle in upper middle class living. Even the noblewomen he was expected to associate with bored him. He found the women of his class to be “dull, simpering morons.” Liam had a thirst and desire for something more exciting and interesting. He wanted to see the world, but alcohol was much closer and easier to obtain. By his twenties, he found his excitement in a bottle, in fighting, in women, and in generally being a lazy waste of a man.
At 26 years of age, after a particularly drunken night, his attempts to seduce the family housekeeper ends up in his being expelled from his family home. His father kicked him out and left him with the declaration of being a “terrible disappointment”. Finding himself at a tavern again, he began to drown his sorrows once more in alcohol. The last thing he wanted to hear and have confirmed to him once more was what a failure he was. He lamented not being able to see his sister, Kathy, for he cared for her a great deal. Liam felt he was meant for more than this life and the constant inability to achieve more had pushed him to what he felt was his lowest point. So Liam did what he would continue to do to this day – he fought. A drunken brawl in the tavern led to him noticing a seemingly affluent woman. Once he was kicked out of the tavern fight, he was lured in by the woman, the vampire Darla, who promised to fulfill all of his dreams. She promised him he’d be able to see the world and that all the interesting and exciting things he wanted would be shown to him. At the end of these glorious promises, Darla transformed Liam into a vampire. Something inside of Liam that strived for purpose, success, and glory fired up the demon that occupied his body once his human soul was lost. Now free of burden, conscience, and remorse the demon he became would soon be legendary.
Upon his rebirth and rising from the grave, the first act on his agenda was to completely slaughter his community. Though, he rightly started with his own family and his most beloved of all, his sister Kathy. She invited him into their family home, thinking him an angel, and sealed the fate of the family as he murdered each and every one of them. He confronted his father and told him that he’d finally made something of himself before killing him. Thanks to a jab from Darla, he was reminded that his father’s disapproval would always haunt him. With his family and community gone, he left the name Liam behind and took on the name of Angelus. With Darla, they left a trail of murder and bloodshed all the way to London where Angelus met the Master for the first time. Needless to say, the sadistic and ambitious demon that Angelus had become was not impressed with the Master. He openly mocked the ancient vampire, the one to sire Darla, and somehow won over Darla with his attitude toward the Master. The pair would then make their own way across Europe to see the experience the world he’d always dreamed of.
Angelus soon became the most feared and most respected vampire in the land as he took on each city as his own playground. Murder, torture, kidnapping, pointless violence, symbolic violence…all had a place in Angelus’ world. Along their journey, he created his masterpiece: Drusilla. She was a girl gifted with “the sight” that he chose to manipulate and torture until she went completely mad. Once turned, Drusilla’s internally torture that Angelus created would be undying. When she brought home an unexpected plaything, William, Angelus helped guide the young vampire. He trained William in the arts of torture and mass slaughters and molded the former poet into creature that would soon rival his own sadistic nature.
He would never have predicted what happened next. In 1898 after raping and murdering the favorite daughter of a tribe of gypsies in Romania he was marked for their vengeance. The Kalderdash clan cursed him by restoring his human soul, effectively returning to him his conscience and condemning him to an eternity of remorse for all the crimes he’d committed. Once his soul was restored he found himself unable to feed on his victims. Plagued with guilt, hunger, and paid, he tried his best to resume his life with Darla and company. During the Boxer Rebellion he found himself only able to kill animals, murderers, and rapists while he protected innocent people from Darla. Angered at his change in personality, Darla gave him a chance to prove himself by feeding offering him to feed upon a baby. He refused and rescued the child instead. Angelus dropped Darla, Spike (William), and Drusilla along with his former name and fled to the United States. He lived nameless and in a self-imposed isolation to control his temptation to feed upon humans.
In the 1920s, he spent some time in Chicago. Missoula, Montana was next during the Great Depression. During World War II, Angel (as he now called himself) was coerced into undertaking a secret mission by the Demon Research Initiative. They sank him to the bottom of the ocean to rescue an American submarine crew from three vampires the Nazis had captured as part of their paranormal research activities: Spike among them. After this encounter, Angel went underground until the war was over. In 1952, Angel was a resident of the Hyperion Hotel in Los Angeles. During this time, Angel attempted to stay to himself, avoiding interaction with others. Though he should have been able to assist the humans living in the hotel battle a certain demon that plagued them, he turned his back on them in the end after being betrayed. It was during this time that Angel felt the slight sensation of a desire to help others. New York, in the 1970s, found Angel witnessing the shooting of a store clerk whom he remained with until the clerk’s death. Unable to resist the natural urges, he fed from the dead man’s body. It was the first human blood he’d tasted in a lifetime and became repulsed by the act. The next 20 years, he lived the life of a homeless man, drifting from town to town across the country.
In 1996, Angel was tracked down by a demon called Whistler. Though he was reclusive and tortured emotionally, Angel listened to what Whistler had to offer. There was the chance to fight against evil by helping a newly activated Slayer called Buffy Summers. Finally, he had some purpose and a chance to do real good works. Accepting the job, he traveled to Hemery High School in L.A. where he watched Buffy and her first training under her Watcher, Merrick. From the shadows he watched the suffering and pain she went through while trying to adjust to her new purpose in life. Feeling a kinship with her and struck by her beauty and purpose, he fell in love with her immediately. Now, he lived out his life not just to atone for past sins, but to protect her in her fight against the darkness. Sunnydale would be his next destination where Buffy was to be in the next year.
Once Buffy arrived in Sunnydale and settled into her new life, Angel finally showed himself. He helped her in many fights during her first year by providing information as well as muscle. Becoming something of an unofficial Scooby, his relationship with the rest of the gang was often strained and questioned. Despite it all, Buffy still returned his love around the same time he killed his sire Darla, and Buffy killed the Master. Though all the signs pointed negative, and they tried hard to deny their feelings, the two entered into something resembling a relationship. On her seventeenth birthday, the two consummated their relationship. Then the second aspect of the Gypsy curse showed itself. When Angel experienced that moment of pure true happiness, he lost his soul again and reverted to his former evil self. Angelus was disgusted that Buffy had made him feel love and would soon make every effort to destroy her life. He once again allied himself with Spike and Drusilla who were also settled in Sunnydale. Together, the trio used everything at their disposal to torment the Slayer and her friends. They released demons, caused havoc, terrorized friends and family, and even murdered loved ones of the group. He took particular pleasure in killing the romantic interest of Rupert Giles, a woman of the Kalderash gypsy clan called Jenny Calendar. Having broken the spirit and nearly destroying the lives of his group of victims, he was inspired next by Drusilla to bring the ultimate terror by ending the world. His final plan was to awaken the demon Acathla who would bring about the end. Angelus and Buffy fought and epic battle and just before she was able to land the killing blow, a spell by Willow restored Angel’s soul. He came to as if unaware of what all had been happening over the past few months. Only happy to see Buffy again, he was clueless that she was about to impale him on an enchanted sword, using his blood as the only method of closing the vortex. Though she’d effectively saved the world, Angel was left to only be sucked away into the vortex and taken to Acathla’s hell dimension where he existed in an altered state of time.
A few months later, Angel was unexpectedly released from the hell dimension, and landed in his mansion in a feral state. Even though only a few months had passed on Earth, Angel had suffered a century of torture and torment in the other dimension. Buffy aided him in secret, fostering his rehabilitation. Angel remained feral, but came to Buffy's rescue when one of her classmates turned into a monster and attacked her. Angel killed him and finally recognized Buffy afterward, and regained his sanity. After finding out that Buffy had been secretly caring for him, her friends were none too thrilled with her actions. Through hard work and more good acts, Angel was able to win over the group. While he was working at fitting himself back into life in Sunnydale, the First was busy at tearing him apart emotionally. He had to endure the faces of his victims again and moreover be tempted with the thought of being with Buffy once more and losing his soul again. As the torments and proddings reached their climax, Angel decided to end it all by stepping outside to watch the sunrise in hopes the morning sun would end his existence. Angel was shocked to find that something of a miracle had occurred and a heavy Christmas morning snow effectively blocked the sunlight from reaching him. He decided then that something good may eventually come from his being returned to earth. All the while, he thought it was the First who had released him with the goal of unleashing Angelus again on the world. But maybe something more powerful out there had bigger plans for him.
For a while, he attempted to have a normal life with Buffy. They went on dates, socialized with friends, and in some strange way appeared to be a normal happy couple. But this was not to be, as his own doubts and the realities of the situation became more apparent to him. There was no way he could ever provide her with a normal life. Against his true desires, he ends things with the Slayer to allow her the chance at real happiness. He stuck around long enough to help the gang end another end of the world scenario involving a giant snake mayor, but once the dust had settled and he knew Buffy was safe, he gave her one last look and left Sunnydale without a goodbye.
Then the Los Angeles adventures began. It was there and during those years that Angel learned the deeper secrets of just how the universe worked. He learned about the different powers that struggled against one another for more control. The Powers That Be become a more steady presence in his life in the form of a half-demon named Doyle, who was able to deliver Angel visions from the PtB. With the help of Doyle and Sunnydale friend Cordelia Chase, the trio began Angel Investigations as a method to “help the helpless”. The cast of characters changed after Doyle sacrificed himself during a battle. Enter former Watcher Wesley Wyndam-Pryce and longtime vampire hunter Charles Gunn. The new team soon becomes aware of the evil law firm of Wolfram & Hart, as well as the Sanshu Prophecy. The prophecy reveals that the vampire with a soul will play a pivotal role in the apocalypse, and upon fulfilling his destiny, would be rewarded by being made human. A great deal of bad noise soon followed in the form of Darla being returned to his life, turned again by Drusilla, and some months later returning pregnant with Angel’s son. More battles, conspiracies, time traveling, and an apparent betrayal by Wesley pushed Angel to become darker in his methods. Seeing his former infant son, now much older after returning from a hell dimension and trying to end his father’s life was enough to scar even the most guilt filled of men. Time passed and some wounds healed and the team found themselves in control of Wolfram & Hart. For several months the team worked to bring down the establishment from inside. Angel even went as far as to sign away his part in the Sanshu Prophecy to convince the Senior Partners that he was on their side. Though it was all a clever ploy to get him on the inside to have greater access to the Circle of the Black Thorn, the Partners representatives on earth. More lives were lost in a final great battle against the Senior Partners, but the fight goes on as Angel begins the next chapter of his existence.
((Yeah, I blew through the LA years. So much stuff that doesn’t really do much to change Angel’s character and frankly gets pretty confusing. I believe the important parts of his history are in his distant past. ))
RP Sample:
As years go by, one can develop something of a selective memory. Just as many of his victims had turned into guilty feeling and flashes than true recollections, the events of that epic night could be summed up in one word: DragonSlayer. All of the planning, the fighting, the lives lost, pain endured, and blood shed all led up to that major event. Whatever the details would be written in secret histories, Angel remembered the dragon. Something about the fall of that beast turned the tide of the fight, and they had won. Sorta. Just like waves breaking on the ocean, sometimes they win and take back what they want, but if they miss they'll roll in again. There was nothing final about that fight, no more final than any of the battles they'd entered before. This struggle between Good and Evil, this power play between two opposing forces, whatever it was -- they were all pawns in it and would continue to be so as long as time moved along. The human experience was the challenge and the reward. When Angel came to after landing the final blow, this was a fact he came to understand.
Los Angeles and the world itself were safe now. Wolfram & Hart? Well, it seemed a compromise was going to be made that sounded very much like spinning wheels. Things went back as they were. Some of his friends stayed and went back to work, while others had fallen. There was a night after that final fight that found Angel standing in front of the law firm, watching people come and go, office lights still on in the higher floors. Yes, this organization would continue along with or without him and would continue to do so long after he was gone. The feeling he couldn't shake was that there was still some purpose for him, and wherever he stayed, the fate of the place always changed. He'd walked away from Buffy once to let her live, and now he turned his back on Wolfram & Hart to let it be. Lives still needed saving and sins still had to be atoned for. As much as it were possible for a vampire, he lived for the fight and for the hope of good will prevailing. The letter he left in the main board room would sum up his feelings to any survivors and friends.
"To all of you,
We knew no matter what happened in the end that we would be changed forever. We all did things that pushed the limits of our beings and made us reconsider who we are as people. Some of you will want to stay on and continue your work, some will wish to leave, some no longer have the option of either. There are new fights out there to be won every day, and I still have a lot of debts to pay.
With love,
Angel "
A certain 1968 Plymouth GTX convertible was at the corner of the block, shiny black and eagerly waiting for travel. Angel crossed the street and slipped into the car. The door closed with a perfect clunk that seemed to bring a close to this chapter of his 'life'. The engine came to life with a rumbling hum, and one quick look in the rear view later, he was soon on the highway out of L.A. on onto wherever the breeze took him. In the back of his mind he knew that breeze would eventually blow hard and strong toward Sunnydale. How could it not? Goodbyes had been said and there was really very little left that he could do in that town. Angel was a victim of nostalgia like most 280 year old vampires, and since he had all the time in the world he could afford to give Sunnydale a few more years of recovery before he returned.
For nearly two and a half years Angel roamed the United States, sticking close to the West Coast for most of that time. Every day seemed to bring on a new adventure, new victim, new fight to endure and hopefully win. Finally every city and town on the Golden State map was under a little red X, all but one. It was some little one gas station town right outside of Sunnydale, but no matter how small it was, he was going to give it a shot. The car rolled up to the gas station and Angel exited the vehicle to step around to the pump to fill it up. Even Champion's pumped their own gas. As the numbers clicked off, he glanced back to the building and noted something through the glass. His eyes narrowed as he released the handle of the pump. He reached over into the backseat and pulled out the long leather jacket, slipped it on and crossed the gravel parking lot to the gas station.
His fingers wrapped around the handle of the door and with a quick shove pushed the door open with thunderous force knocking the would-be thief away from the counter and into a rack of chips. Angel stepped into the awful fluorescent glow the store, looking down onto the robber. "You know, its guys like you that make us pay 3 bucks at the pump." He glanced over to the clerk behind the counter, expecting to see a helpless victim. So the sinking feeling of annoyance he felt at seeing a game-faced vampire behind the counter was to be expected. Apparently he'd read this scene all wrong, but there was little time to consider the mistake before the vamp launched himself across the counter and into Angel, knocking them both back against a large ice chest. A good boxing of the ears and back hand later would send the attacker back a few feet. Plenty of room and plenty of time for a stake to be pulled from the inside of his jacket and fired like a missile through the air into the dusty exploding chest of the vampire.
He stepped over to the man he'd knocked away from the door and reached a hand down to him, helping him from the floor. "Next time just run." The response was little more than a shaken nod and Angel was quite used to that as payment. A free fill up later and he was back in the car, pulling the map down from under the sun visor. Crossing off the last town, he tossed the map out of the car onto the gravel and rolled from the parking lot back onto the road. He'd easily reach Sunnydale before sunrise.

I believe the important parts of his history are in his distant past. ))
